Lectionary readings for Sunday 3rd May 2020 – Easter 4 (Year A)

Psalm 23 begins with the very bold and confident statement by David that “The Lord is my shepherd.” Not that the Lord was or will be, but that he IS his shepherd. David affirms that today, right now, in the most difficult of times, he will listen for the voice of the Lord and follow no one but Him.

Who is it that you follow? Who’s voice is it that has most influence on you in your day to day life? In today’s technological world we are flooded with options of people to follow through social media – family, friends, work associates, celebrities, sports stars, politicians, etc. Today, everyone has a voice and an opinion, but whose voice do you choose to listen to?

Our Gospel reading today from John 10 reminds us that Jesus is the good shepherd. Jesus provides us with eternal security, comfort and love that no one else can ever hope to even come close to. Let’s begin each day by declaring boldly and confidently, just like David did, that “the Lord is my shepherd”. Let’s choose to listen for His voice and follow where He leads and guides us, knowing that the goodness and love of Jesus, our saviour, will follow us all the days of our lives.
